Sustainable Coffee

Environmental Impacts

Coffee is a multibillion-dollar global industry that has a huge impact on our planet. Due to the large demand in coffee, famers have been growing coffee using sun-growing methods that have many negative impacts on the environment, such as deforestation, water pollution, agrochemical usage, and waste production.

Fair Trade

"80% of the world’s coffee is grown by smallholder farmers, many of whom struggle to earn a reliable living". (https://fairtrade.ca/producers-products/coffee/)

What is fair trade? Fair trade is an arrangement that helps farmers and producers have a better life by providing fair prices on produce, allowing for equitable trade relationships and environmental development. Fair trade also decreases child labour and forced labour as well as poverty.
